Instrumental rock quintet In Each Hand A Cutlass (IEHAC) return with a massive and monolithic new effort titled The Kraken. Recorded and produced by acclaimed American record producer Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Pete Yorn, Sunny Day Real Estate, Veruca Salt, Touché Amoré) and mastered by Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters, Haim, Sia), the record is an hour-long homage to the legendary creature of the deep, set on course by an epic 20-minute, three-part suite which forms the centrestage of the title track.
You can preview the first single off the album, ‘Satori 101’, over here.
IEHAC are best known for their stunningly cinematic brand of post-rock — a genre that has gathered a huge following worldwide due to its fans’ fondness for instrumental proficiency and a strong emotional vocabulary. IEHAC follow a line paved by legendary post-rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky but it’s clear they intent on carving their own path. With The Kraken, this seems more evident than ever.
IEHAC will be celebrating the release of the album with a concert at the Esplanade Recital Studio, featuring the band along with musical guests Josh Wei (violin) and Hsiao Shan Loh (cello), together with immersive background visuals curated by video artist Brandon Tay (Syndicate) The band will perform the album live for the first time, in its entirety.
